On Saturday, March 3, 2007, the Bear River Youth Centre presented their first Variety Night, showcasing local talent, to a packed audience at the Oakdene Centre. Everything from opera to jazz to bluegrass to country to rock was offered, satisfying every musical taste. The performers were happy to lend their considerable talents to a great cause—the Bear River Youth Centre. Master of Ceremonies Gerry Chute kept things lively, and Bear River artists donated beautiful door prizes. The evening was so well received by the community that the Youth Centre is now planning for future variety shows.
Thanks go to all of the performers: Greg & Cory Peck, Robert Milne, Danny Proulx, Alan Comeau, Jerry Thurber, Steve Spidell, Taylor Express, Rev. Jones and the Demons of Swing, Matthew Stanton, Big Traffic City; the visual artists: Sharon Trueman, Rob Buckland-Nicks, Bob Woods, Phyllis Woods, Jenny Stewart/Viking Leather, Don Rice, Wally Shishkov, and Susan Malmstrom. Our young decorators had help from Sandy Burrell and Louise Wood, the canteen was managed by Bonnie McLeod, and the youth selling tickets were assisted by Sharon Trueman. The stage was managed by Reverend Wayne Smith, and the talent line-up was put together by Hal Theriault. And of course, thanks to all who attended.
